Why Baileys Ease & Excel is
suitable for horses prone to EGUS

Ease & Excel was one of the first feeds to be recognised by BETA’s new Feed Approval Mark.  This means that its starch and sugar content are low enough that, when fed according to recommendations, the horse will receive less than 1g/1kg of bodyweight in starch and sugar per meal and less than 2g/1kg of bodyweight of starch and sugar per day.

Supports a Healthy Gastric pH

  • Minimising the starch content, both per meal and in the diet overall, helps maintain a healthy gastric pH and reduce the risk of ulceration.
  • Natural antacids, including calcium and magnesium, are supplied by Protexin In Feed Formula in Ease & Excel and help buffer the acid contents of the stomach.
  • Ease & Excel contains alfalfa chaff which encourages the horse to chew, thus producing saliva which contains its own natural acid-buffer.  Alfalfa is also rich in calcium and is thought to form a physical fibrous raft on the top of the stomach contents which helps to protect the upper squamous region from acid splashes during physical activity.
No.21 Ease & Excel is designed to support the management of horses and ponies at risk from non-glandular ulcers.
Please seek veterinary advice for the treatment/management of glandular ulcers.

Supports a Healthy Gastro-Intestinal Lining

  • The soya hulls and beet pulp in Ease & Excel and Ease & Excel Cubes are rich sources of pectin which, in acidic conditions, alters its structure to one that is similar to mucus and has been shown to bind to, and thicken, the stomach mucosa thereby protecting it from acid attack.
  • Protexin In-Feed Formula contains beta-glucan, a polysaccharide soluble fibre, similar to pectin, whose gel-like consistency not only helps coat the gut lining, it also helps to slow the progress of starch-containing feed through the digestive system.  This helps ensure more is digested and absorbed in the small intestine and minimises the risk of undigested starch or sugar reaching the hindgut where it can cause disruption.
  • Soya oil has also been shown to slow the passage of feed from the stomach, aiding the digestion of starch content. Both Ease & Excel and Ease & Excel Cubes contain good levels of soya oil as well as linseed oil.
  • The Protexin In-Feed Formula in Ease & Excel contains Gum Arabic which has demulcent properties, to help support the integrity of the lining of the stomach and digestive tract.
