Carrie Byrom – Detective aka “Digger”
Detective is a 3* eventer who has always been notoriously stressy when away at events, going off his feed and water, and being prone to muscle dysfunction problems. He can be fussy and is not inclined to eat sufficient forage.
To increase his fibre intake, Carrie gives him soaked Fibre-Beet in a separate bucket from his hard feed, as this encourages foraging behaviour and improves fibre uptake. As it’s a soaked fibre source, it also helps maintain hydration levels, especially away from home.
Digger gets Ease & Excel to fuel his work and maintain condition and its low starch content helps avoid exacerbating his tendency to stress, while also being essential in helping to manage any muscle dysfunction.
Carrie says, “I was thrilled to complete Bramham CCI***, this year, and for Digger to recover so well. It was a real relief to see him maintain his appetite throughout the competition and to complete the final phase on a happy horse.”
Chris Burton – Nobilis 18 aka “George”
Nobilis 18 is a 4* eventer who is a notoriously fussy eater and struggles to maintain condition. He is known to be prone to gastric ulcers and he gets fussier about his feed as the fitness work is increased.
In order to ensure that George doesn’t miss out on the essential protein, vitamins and minerals he needs, to maintain muscle tone and support performance, he is always given Performance Balancer as this provides these nutrients by the mug-full which suits his limited appetite. He also gets four or five small meals per day of Ease & Excel which provides additional nutrients plus slow release, non-starch calories.
Chris says, “We were delighted to find a feed at last that George will eat in sufficient quantities to help him improve condition. He still has a way to go, as he’ll drop condition very quickly, but he’s currently looking as well as he ever has and the longer he continues to eat Ease & Excel, the better he is looking which has got to be good for his long term fitness.”
Lynn Russell – Dorton
Dorton is a young ex-racehorse whom Lynn had straight out of training. He is naturally quite sharp and, although living out 24/7 helps all Lynn’s horses relax, she needed to promote condition without sending him off his head.
Dorton was fed Ease & Excel as soon as he arrived and Lynn soon saw a difference in his condition yet found he remained manageable despite the huge changes in management and training he was going through.
Lynn says, “Ex-racehorses, like Dorton, need a lot of retraining to help them adapt to the show ring so knowing I can feed reasonable levels of calories, while still keeping them sensible to ride and train, is a bonus. Many are likely to come out of training with EGUS and having an easy-to-feed low starch option makes my life so much easier.”
